Intelligence
Informatics CIS places innovation and the inclusion of advanced features at the heart of its development and product ethos.

The inclusion of artificial intelligence (AI) is designed to improve and enhance the experience of the software user whilst offering powerful functionality, such as:
  • Automatic risk assessment based on genetic algorithms from published and peer-reviewed medical research
  • Automatic calculation of basic but time-consuming clinical indicators such as Body Mass Index (BMI) and mean arterial pressure
  • Decision support such as indicators to suggest when a test or investigation may or may not be necessary, based on published and peer-reviewed research and national guidelines

Smart navigation and routing mean that only relevant questions are asked and that all relevant questions are asked. Patients' answers are used by the system to alert clinicians to the possible need for further investigations.

Many items can be filled in automatically via interfaces to other IT systems. It is also possible to customise questionnaires to meet local needs and to reflect the requirements of different specialties.

The key intelligence of Synopsis IQ™ is a sophisticated predictive model which allows it to identify and score clinical risks automatically. Thus a patient who is considered, for example, a high risk for PONV or MI is identified by the system with an indication of the severity of the risk. Synopsis IQ™ is then able to suggest appropriate strategies to manage the risks in the optimum way. The preoperative assessment, risk scores and recommended strategies are summarised in a single document that can be viewed and printed easily.

When linked to a surgical scheduling system Synopsis IQ™ can also provide unprecedented accuracy in estimates of surgery duration.

The predictive model makes use of published algorithms for risk scoring, but a major additional strength is its ability to derive new predictive functions by "mining" historical data.

It uses conventional regression techniques to identify variables which have a significant relationship to a given outcome but then manipulates these using genetic algorithms to achieve a new level of predictive accuracy.

It is able to track changes in relationships and adapt the model accordingly making it possible to tailor the system to practice in an individual hospital or hospital group.

Synopsis IQ™ combines a flexible and powerful preoperative assessment with advanced artificial intelligence to provide complete risk scoring and strategy management.
